Based on your responses, you may need a push to become a hunter. Here’s the good news: consider this your push.
When it comes to sales, a farmer’s mindset will only get you so far. You may be able to keep the lights on but you won’t overperform. A farmer may land a big client from time to time, but enough chimps at a typewriter will give you Hamlet. If you want to land a whale, you don’t go to a farmer; you go to a hunter.
Top earners do not “wait and see” and they do not settle for “good enough.” Developing a hunter’s mindset is not an easy thing to do. Wanting it is not enough; you will need to work on it every day. So, what can you do today that will set you up for success? For starters, you need to get on the phone ASAP. If you are waiting for a call back or hoping that email gets returned, you aren’t going to make it. Who are the clients you wish you had? If you don’t know, that’s a problem. Learn everything you can about them. Figure out what their painpoints are and find a way to position yourself as the solution. It doesn’t matter what you sell, your product will not move itself. You need to become an advocate. When people believe that you have faith in what you sell, they will have faith.
As simple as it is to do research today, and as much as we say that the customer has ever been more informed, I promise you that people don’t know what they want until you tell them. Believe in what you do and don’t stop putting your message in front of people until you make a sale. Every “No” breaks the farmer down but it builds the hunter up. You need to find a way to get hungry and stay hungry. To that end, I want to share a few resources that can help you understand how the best in the business do this today.
